Coach Woody Named KingCo 3A 'Coach of the Year'

Congratulations to Head Coach Dominic Woody for earning KingCo 3A Coach of the Year as voted by league coaches.  This is Woody's second season at the helm and this season he led the Islanders to an 8-4 league record and 2nd place KingCo finish.

Bellevue edges Mercer Island, takes KingCo top seed

The KingCo title was up for grabs Monday, May 5 at Bellevue High School, with Mercer Island and Bellevue heading into the regular season finale with identical 10-3 conference records.

Celebrating its Senior Night amidst the rain, Bellevue scored five runs in the first three innings to jump out to an early 5-1 lead. After Mercer Island cut the deficit to one in the game's final inning, Bellevue's Ruric Ellings shut the door on the Islanders in his relief appearance, securing a 5-4 win and earning KingCo's top seed for the Wolverines heading into tournament play. Jake Stenberg went 2-4 with a double, and Brandon Lawler went 2-3 with a double, scoring a run while batting in two more.

Finishing KingCo competition with a record of 10-4 and an overall record of 12-7, Mercer Island will head into postseason play as KingCo's second seed. The Islanders will face the winner of Thursday's first-round matchup between the third- and sixth-seeded teams Saturday, May 10 at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue.

Islanders pound Wildcats

After falling to Mount Si 13-1 earlier this season, Mercer Island baseball got its revenge using a 6-run fifth inning to cruise to an 8-3 victory over the Wildcats Friday at Mount Si High School. Chris Lawler earned the win for the Islanders, pitching his third-straight complete game, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out five. Lawler also went 2-3 at the plate, while Keegan Ogard was 3-3 with an RBI and Brandon Lawler was 1-3 with a double and four RBIs. Mercer Island will finish the regular season at Bellevue Monday, May 5 in a game featuring KingCo's top two teams.

Come cheer on the Islanders as they battle Bellevue on Monday April 5th.  The Islanders are tied for first place with Bellevue and the two teams play each other in the final game of the 2A/3A KingCo schedule.

The game starts at 4:30pm at Bellevue HS.

Islanders thump Liberty on Senior Night

After leading 1-0 through three innings, Mercer Island baseball used a five-run fourth inning to cruise past Liberty 11-0 Wednesday at Island Crest Park. Brandon Lawler went 1-3, scoring three runs while ending the game with a walk off home run, Michael Petrie went 1-2 with two runs and two RBIs and Michael Bantle went 1-2 with a run scored and two RBIs. Next up, the Islanders take on Mount Si at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Mount Si High School.

Islanders Cruise past Juanita

Mercer Island baseball used back-to-back five-run innings to cruise past Juanita 12-2 Monday at Island Crest Park. Brandon Lawler went 2-3 with a double and four RBIs and Keegan Ogard went 2-4 with a double and two RBIs. Tonight is Senior Night as the Islanders will take on Liberty.  Festivities start at 6pm and game starts at 6:30.

Islanders Shut Out Interlake

Mercer Island baseball bounced back from a 4-0 loss to Sammamish Wednesday, beating Interlake 4-0 Friday, April 25 at Interlake High School. Chris Lawler earned the win for Mercer Island, allowing two hits and no runs while striking out six in a complete game performance. Lawler also went 2-4 at the plate with a double, while Harrison Goonewardene went 1-2 while batting in two runs. Mercer Island will take on Juanita at 7 p.m. Monday, April 28 at Island Crest Park.


Islanders Fall to Sammamish

Sammamish ended a two-game winning streak for Mercer Island baseball, scoring two in the second and pulling away with two more in the fifth to beat the Islanders 4-0 Wednesday, April 23 at Sammamish High School. The loss dropped Mercer Island to 6-3 in the KingCo standings, a half-game behind second-place Mount Si. Brandon Lawler went 2-2 for Mercer Island, and Jake Stenberg went 1-1 with two walks. Next up, the Islanders will take on Interlake at 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 25 at Interlake High School.

Walk Off Beats Lake Washington

Mercer Island baseball won its second straight game Monday, beating Lake Washington 2-1 at Island Crest Park. Will Mansfield pitched five innings for the Islanders, giving up one run on three hits, with the lone run being a solo home run to Lake Washington's Jake Wikel. Aidan Plummer earned the win in a relief appearance, allowing no hits in two innings and striking out four. Zach Rothenberg went 3-3 and Michael Petrie went 2-4 with a walk off game winning RBI in the bottom of the 7th.

Next up, the Islanders will take on Sammamish at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 23 at Sammamish High School.

Islanders Throttle Bellevue 9-0

The Islanders moved into 2nd place in KingCo play after taking down league leader Bellevue 9-0.  Chris Lawler pitched a complete game, 2-hit shutout and the Islanders racked up 9 hits to blank the Wolverines.

Little League Appreciation Night this Monday!

Join us for our annual Little League Appreciation Night this Monday, April 21st at ICP.  Each year we celebrate the growth of Mercer Island youth baseball as we continue our strong baseball tradition while promoting the love of the game.  

Little League players in uniform will receive free food and prizes during both the JV and Varsity games.  Also watch the 'Varsity Captain for a Day' throw out the first pitch.  

Players that get to ICP by 6:45 can join the Varsity team on the field for the National Anthem!

Little League Opening Day this Saturday

The annual Mercer Island Little League opening day kicks off the season this Saturday April 19th at 11am at the South Mercer playfields.  The MIHS baseball and softball teams will be there along with plenty of food, raffle tickets and MI gear.  This year's special guest is sportscaster Jen Mueller from Root Sports!

Parking is extremely limited.  The South Mercer Fields parking lot will be reserved for the field festivities.  You may drop your family members at the Lakeridge drive thru and then go park in the neighborhoods. You may also park behind Lakeridge or along 84th.

Islanders Finish Spring Break 3-1

The Islanders won 3 games over spring break and improved to 3-1 in KingCo league play after beating Sammamish, Interlake and Juanita.  League matchups continue with games against Liberty, Mt. Si and Bellevue this week.

It was a rough start to KingCo competition for Mercer Island baseball on Friday night. After giving up six runs in the first two innings of its KingCo opener against Lake Washington, the Islanders fell into a deficit they couldn't overcome, losing to the Kangs 7-4 at Lee Johnson Field. The loss dropped Mercer Island to 2-3 overall on the season.  more

Islanders Looking for Sunshine

After a loss to O'dea and a rain out against Eastside Catholic last week, the Islanders look to get back in the groove with a Friday league game against Lake Washington.

Islanders Win Two of Three

The Islanders took down Seattle Prep 5-1 in their season opener on strong pitching from Harrison Goonewardene and Aidan Plummer.  The team lost a tough game Saturday against Richland 7-4 then closed out Kamiakin 4-2 to end a productive trip to Eastern Washington.  Two more non-conference games against O'Dea and Eastside Catholic are scheduled for this week.
