Sean White '99 & Dave Wainhouse '85

From the class of 1999 is Sean White

A long time Islander, Sean moved to Mercer Island in 5th grade an attended West Mercer Elementary, he played baseball as well as other sports and attended MIHS from 1996-1999.  Sean was a key teammate of the FIRST Islander baseball KingCo championship team!

During his senior year, he earned 1st Team All-KingCo and All-American honorable mention.

After high school, Sean continued his baseball career as a pitcher for the University of Washington from 2000-2003 where he was an All-Pac-10 honorable mention in 2002 and 2003.

Having perfected his nasty sinker, Sean was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 8th round of the 2003 draft. He made his Major League Baseball debut with the Seattle Mariners in 2007, where he played until 2010 as a relief pitcher making him the second Mercer Island player to play in the big leagues,

Sean continued his pro career with the Boston Red Sox, Colorado Rockies, Los Angeles Angels and Los Angeles Dodgers organizations.

Still residing on Mercer Island, he is now a Financial Advisor at Washington Financial Partners.

From the class of 1985 is Dave Wainhouse

Dave was a three-position player for MI during the 1984-85 seasons, but it was as a pitcher that he was a stand out for the Islanders. After graduating in 1985, Dave attended Washington State University, making the starting rotation in his freshman year as a walk-on.

After his junior year at WSU where he was 7-0, the Montreal Expos selected Dave in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft. That summer Dave, who was born in Toronto, played with the Canadian Team in the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea, before starting his professional baseball career.

In 1991 Dave was promoted to the Expos major league team making him the first Mercer Island player ever to play in the big leagues. Over the span of 14 seasons, Dave had the great experience of playing for five different ball clubs in the Major Leagues -- the Montreal Expos, Seattle Mariners, Pittsburgh Pirates, Colorado Rockies and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Dave retired from professional baseball in 2001 after having learned from some of the great managers of the sport, including Filipe Alou, Lou Pinella, Jim Leyland and Tony LaRussa.

Dave returned home to spend more time with his family and his two children, Joe, now a starter for the University of Washington Huskies baseball team, and Ava.

Since 2002 Dave has been coaching young pitchers in the Seattle area and is a director of the Rock Creek Baseball Program in Maple Valley.

The MI baseball community is grateful to have these two great players represent our high school team.

Please keep Coach Woody and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
